INTRODUCTION
1. GREETING
T:
Good morning, dear children. I am very glad to see you today. How are you? Are
you ready to speak English? So, today we will speak on the topic “Popular
sports and games. Ukrainian sportsmen.” (Slide 1)
You will practise the vocabulary on the topic, develop
your listening, reading and speaking skills and speak about the famous
Ukrainian sportsmen. (Slide 2)
II. WARMING –
UP
T:
Well, our body needs training, but our tongue needs training too. Let's start
our lesson with a phonetic drill. Look at the screen, listen to me and repeat
the tongue – twister after me. (Slide 3)
I like to run
out in the sun,
It's such a
fun to run, to run.
III. MAIN
PART
1. LISTENING
T:
Listen and try to guess what sport the teenagers talk about.
a) Some people think that it is a boring game, because
it can last for five days. But I think that it is very interesting and
intelligent. The players look wonderful in their white trousers and white
shirts and jumpers. (Cricket)
b) It is one of the oldest and the most popular sport
in the world, the Americans called it soccer. It is an exciting game for real
men. There are eleven players in each team. They are big, fast and really
strong. (Football)
c) It is an individual sport both for boys and girls.
First it was popular only among the boys but now more and more girls take part
in it. It helps to become strong, confident and you are always ready to defend
yourself and other people. It is very important. Some people say that it is a
fight and it is not good for girls but I can't agree with them. (Karate)

The British are a sporting nation. They are fond of different sports.

The British are great sport lovers. They like playing or watching sports
and talking about them.
One of the most popular British game is cricket. It is often played in

summer without cricket. Another game which attracts the greatest attention is
football. Every Saturday from August till May large crowds of people support
their favourite teams in football grounds.
Rugby football is very popular, too, but it is not a professional game.
The next lovely sport in British life is horse – racing. The Derby is
the most famous event in the whole world.
A great number of people play and watch tennis. Tennis tournaments at
Wimbledon are known all over the world.
The British also like to play golf, baseball, hockey and grass - hockey.
Running, jumping, swimming and boxing are also popular in Great Britain.
